Amazon Teamsters Expand Strike to LA County

TL/DR -

Amazon delivery drivers affiliated with Teamsters Local 396 have extended their unfair labor practice strike to DAX5 in City of Industry, California in a bid to pressure the company to improve working conditions and pay. The strike, which is considered the largest and longest in Amazon's history in the US, will continue until the company reinstates the drivers' jobs, recognizes their union contract, and engages in collective bargaining. The drivers' grievances include low wages, dangerous working conditions and Amazon's refusal to recognize and honor their union agreement, leading to the termination of newly organized workers and numerous unfair labor practices.

Amazon Drivers Strike in Southern California

In the largest and longest Amazon strike in U.S. history, Amazon drivers from Teamsters Local 396 in Southern California are intensifying their unfair labor practice (ULP) strike against the company.

Tom Culver, an Amazon driver and Teamster, says their fight for safer working conditions and fair pay is gathering momentum with each picket extension. Amazon's intimidation attempts fail as they continue to build worker power, backed by 1.3 million Teamsters and community support.

The Palmdale-based drivers organized the first Amazon drivers' union in the country, but Amazon refused to honor their initial Teamsters contract. The drivers, who were subsequently laid off, are holding out until their jobs are reinstated, their union contract is recognized, and collective bargaining takes place to improve pay and conditions.

Due to issues like low wages and extreme heat exposure, workers in Palmdale organized with the Teamsters. Now, with state officials delaying a vote on indoor heat rules for workplaces, the Teamsters are pressuring Amazon to negotiate better safety standards.

Since the strike's inception last year, Amazon Teamsters have picketed at over 33 Amazon warehouses nationwide, consolidating Amazon workers' solidarity. This has been a valuable opportunity for them to share their struggles for better wages and conditions and grow support for their cause.

The International Brotherhood of Teamsters, founded in 1903, represents 1.3 million hardworking people in the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico. Visit Teamster.org for more information and follow @Teamsters on Twitter and Facebook at Facebook.com/teamsters.
