Pocono Raceway Set for Revving Return of NASCAR’s Great American Getaway 400

As part of a thrilling NASCAR tripleheader weekend, the action will return to Pennsylvania’s iconic Pocono Raceway on June 22, with the race being broadcast on Amazon to a global audience.

Governor Josh Shapiro emphasizes the value of tourism to Pennsylvania’s economy, proposing $65 million in his 2025-26 budget to gear up for America’s 250th birthday celebration next year.

HARRISBURG, PA – The Great American Getaway 400, presented by VISITPA.COM, is set to electrify fans once more at the renowned Pocono Raceway. Governor Shapiro’s administration is continuing its collaboration with Pocono Raceway for a second year, underscoring the state’s dedication to boosting tourism and economic activity. This event is expected to draw racing fans from across the globe to Pennsylvania.

Governor Shapiro affirmed, “NASCAR Cup Series races are some of the biggest and best sporting events in the world, and nobody does it better than Pennsylvania. This race is a great example of how the Commonwealth continues to be a premier destination for tourism, with the famous ‘Tricky Triangle’ drawing fans from across the country to experience everything our state has to offer — from top-tier sports and outdoor adventure to rich history and vibrant communities.” He highlighted the event’s role in promoting the local economy and showcasing Pennsylvania’s attractions.

The Pennsylvania: The Great American Getaway campaign, launched last year, has highlighted the state’s offerings. Pocono Raceway plays a significant role in enhancing Pennsylvania’s visibility through NASCAR’s extensive reach.

Amazon Prime Video, NASCAR's new broadcasting partner, will air the race live, supported by additional coverage on SiriusXM and MRN Radio. The event’s wide-reaching broadcast will span 195 countries in over 29 languages, putting Pennsylvania in the international spotlight.

Tourism: Fueling Pennsylvania’s Economic Engine

Pocono Raceway, a premier motorsports venue, draws fans from all over the United States and beyond. The NASCAR weekend, which includes the Xfinity Series and CRAFTSMAN Truck Series, generates a substantial $75 million economic impact, significantly benefiting local businesses, hotels, and restaurants.

Pocono Raceway President Ben May remarked, “Pocono Raceway has been a must-visit destination since our first green flag in 1971. More than 60 percent of our fans travel from out of state or internationally, and we are thrilled that Governor Shapiro and his Administration have once again chosen Pocono and NASCAR to showcase why Pennsylvania is The Great American Getaway.” Pennsylvania’s location offers convenient access for millions living within a short drive from major East Coast cities, making it an ideal weekend destination.

Tourism stands as a pillar in Governor Shapiro’s economic development strategy. According to a 2024 report by the Pennsylvania Tourism Office, the industry contributed $76.7 billion to the economy, supported nearly 487,000 jobs, and drew 192.4 million visitors in 2022, significantly impacting state and local tax revenues.

The upcoming 250th anniversary of America’s independence in 2026, with Pennsylvania hosting significant events such as NCAA’s March Madness, the FIFA World Cup, the MLB All-Star Game, and the NFL Draft, further highlights the Commonwealth’s pivotal role. Governor Shapiro’s 2025-26 budget outlines a $64 million allocation to prepare for these celebrations:

  • $2.5 million for continuing America250PA initiatives
  • $15 million in new funding for Regional Event Security
  • $10 million to enhance promotion of the 250th celebration
  • $36.5 million for planning and executing internationally recognized events
