Governor Shapiro's Initiatives Propel PA to Record $20B Amazon Deal
Pennsylvania's Economic Leap: Governor Shapiro's Strategic Investments
Amidst a competitive economic landscape, Pennsylvania is making headlines with strategic investments aimed at bolstering its economy and job market. Governor Josh Shapiro's administration recently celebrated a landmark achievement with the announcement of a major $20 billion investment from Amazon, marking the largest private sector investment in the state's history. This move is part of a broader strategy to enhance Pennsylvania's competitiveness and economic development.
Harrisburg, PA – In a recent development, Governor Shapiro revealed an investment from Module Design, Inc. (Module) to expand its manufacturing operations in Allegheny County. This $2.4 million initiative will create 58 new jobs and retain eight existing positions, further fueling local economic growth.
“Pennsylvania is competing again – and we’re winning new investment, growing our economy, and creating jobs for people across our Commonwealth,” said Governor Shapiro. “My Administration is committed to supporting strategic investments like this one that strengthen our communities, attract cutting-edge companies, and position Pennsylvania as a national leader in economic growth.”
Module has been awarded a funding package from the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED), which includes a $400,000 Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority (PIDA) loan, a $290,000 Pennsylvania First grant, and a $72,000 WEDnetPA grant for workforce training.
The investment will be utilized to enhance Module's current facilities and acquire new equipment, boosting efficiency and production capabilities. The company leases a 22,000-square-foot space in Carnegie borough for its modular housing manufacturing.
“We are committed to supporting companies like Module, who are creating jobs and bringing high-quality, eco-friendly housing options to those who need it the most,” stated DCED Secretary Rick Siger. The initiative aligns with Pennsylvania's broader economic strategy to foster innovative and sustainable growth.
Module is redefining the housing market with its eco-friendly, equitable approach to modular housing, emphasizing in-house design, manufacturing, and construction. According to Brian Gaudio, Co-Founder and CEO of Module, “With support from the Commonwealth, we’re expanding our capacity to deliver high-quality, energy-efficient housing in a region where housing is in short supply.”
Module's homes adhere to the Department of Energy’s Zero Energy Ready Home standard, promoting lower utility costs and healthier living conditions. Their Last Mile Network™ further exemplifies how modular housing can stimulate local job creation and economic stability.
“Sustainable housing solutions are more important than ever, and this expansion is wonderful news for Module and Allegheny County,” commented Sara Innamorato, Allegheny County Executive, highlighting Module’s commitment to eco-friendly housing and workforce development.
This initiative was coordinated by Governor Shapiro’s BusinessPA team, which provides tailored guidance and strategic resources to businesses.
Governor Shapiro's administration has been instrumental in securing over $25.2 billion in private sector investments, resulting in nearly 11,000 new jobs since his term began. The 2025-26 budget proposal aims to further this momentum with new initiatives to close workforce gaps and attract businesses.
