Amazon's $20B Investment in PA to Create 1,250 Jobs and Boost AI Programs

Amazon's $20 Billion Tech Expansion Set to Bring Jobs and Innovation to Pennsylvania

Berwick, PA – Amazon is poised to make a transformative impact on Pennsylvania's economy with a substantial $20 billion investment aimed at developing advanced cloud computing and AI campuses. Governor Josh Shapiro revealed that the initiative will generate at least 1,250 high-tech positions, with the first campuses planned for Salem Township and Falls Township. Additional locations across Pennsylvania are also being evaluated for future development.

Governor Shapiro emphasized the significance of this investment, stating, “Pennsylvania is competing again – and I’m proud to announce that with Amazon’s commitment of at least $20 billion to build new state-of-the-art data center campuses across our Commonwealth, we have secured the largest private sector investment in the history of Pennsylvania.” This monumental deal is expected to create stable, well-paying jobs as initial campuses are established in Luzerne and Bucks counties, with potential expansions on the horizon.

This announcement aligns with Governor Shapiro's broader economic development strategy, which has already facilitated over $25.2 billion in private sector investments and nearly 11,000 new jobs since he assumed office. The administration's efforts include streamlining permitting processes and fostering an environment conducive to business growth.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) stands at the forefront of global cloud computing, bolstering AI innovation through advanced infrastructure and machine learning. The new Pennsylvania campuses will reinforce AWS's commitment to U.S. technological leadership, enabling industries to leverage AI advancements for operational transformation and innovation acceleration.

David Zapolsky, Amazon’s chief global affairs and legal officer, affirmed Amazon's commitment, saying, “Amazon’s multi-billion-dollar investment in Pennsylvania reinforces our dedication to advancing AI innovation while creating lasting economic opportunities in the state.” The initiative promises to bolster the local economy through job creation, workforce development, and community engagement.

DCED Secretary Rick Siger noted the project's anticipated economic impact, highlighting the substantial tax benefits and job creation potential. He remarked, “Pennsylvania is proud to have worked alongside our local partners in Salem Township, Luzerne County and Falls Township, Bucks County, to win today’s unprecedented $20 billion investment from Amazon.”

Amazon's expansion in Pennsylvania builds on a longstanding presence, with over $26 billion invested since 2010 in infrastructure and employee compensation. The new campuses will join a robust network of 23 fulfillment centers and 20 delivery stations, further entrenching Amazon's operational footprint across the Commonwealth.
