UAW Region 2B Director Criticizes Ohio GOP's Redistricting Plans

UAW Leader Criticizes Ohio's Redistricting Efforts

Dave Green, Director of UAW Region 2B, recently voiced strong criticism regarding Ohio's current approach to redistricting. He claims that the state's Republican leaders are attempting to manipulate electoral boundaries to maintain control rather than addressing the pressing needs of Ohio’s residents.

Amidst the backdrop of increasing living expenses and communities advocating for better employment opportunities, healthcare access, and neighborhood safety, Green argues that Ohio’s politicians prioritize self-preservation and the interests of affluent allies.

Green accuses state leaders of drafting Ohio’s electoral maps secretly to select their electorate instead of allowing a fair voter representation process. The issue of gerrymandering has been addressed multiple times, with the Ohio Supreme Court declaring such maps unconstitutional on five occasions, including the rejection of congressional maps twice. However, according to Green, rather than honoring the voters’ intentions, politicians continue to engage in covert practices and power consolidations.

Emphasizing the importance of fair electoral maps, Green maintains that they transcend party lines and are fundamental to preserving democracy. "When political insiders manipulate district lines to keep themselves in office, working people lose," he states, urging an end to biased systems that favor politicians and corporate backers. Green calls for a focus on supporting Ohio’s workforce, communities, and future.
