UAW Honors Kent Wong, Esteemed Advocate for Workers and Immigrants

The labor and advocacy community is mourning the loss of Kent Wong, a dedicated advocate for workers' rights both within the Los Angeles area and on a broader scale.

For over three decades, Wong led the UCLA Labor Center, where he was instrumental in mentoring students and activists. His leadership expanded the center's capacity to address community educational needs, rooted in his deep commitment to social and economic justice.

Wong was particularly known for his work championing immigrant rights and supporting undocumented communities. He played a key role in creating the first Dream Resource Center and initiating the Dream Summer Fellowship program. His vision extended internationally as he sought to build cross-border relationships and promote peaceful collective action to challenge powerful entities.

His support for UAW workers' organizing efforts at the University of California, his participation in numerous political campaigns in Los Angeles and California, and his leadership in the immigrant rights movement were pivotal. Moreover, Wong helped connect the U.S. labor movement with global workers' struggles.

The profound impact of Kent Wong’s work is felt by his family, colleagues, and the many individuals he inspired during his life. Our sincere condolences go out to all who were touched by his legacy.
