UAW Fellowship Program: Developing Future Union Leaders and Educators
DETROIT, MI – An exciting new opportunity is available for energetic individuals passionate about union conversations and empowerment. The UAW Education Department is set to launch its Fellowship Program from October 2026 through spring 2027, designed to transform UAW members into influential leaders and educators within the union.
The Fellowship Program offers a rigorous work-study experience. Participants who complete the program will be recognized as Local Union Discussion Leaders (LUDLs). These leaders play a crucial role as activists, enhancing education initiatives at both the local and national levels within the union.
Spanning several months, the program consists of various training sessions, combining both in-person and virtual formats. Fellows will engage with the UAW Education Department to enhance their facilitation skills, increase their confidence in conducting workshops, and improve their ability to inspire fellow union members through educational engagement.
Since its inception in the late 1970s, the program has seen participation from over 600 UAW members. Many graduates have advanced their roles within the union, serving as educators, activists, and in leadership positions, including local union presidents and International Executive Board members.
