Teamsters Secure Landmark Deal for US Foods Drivers in the Southeast

In a significant move for labor rights, over 200 drivers employed by US Foods throughout the Southeastern United States have successfully ratified a lucrative new contract. This comes after a potential strike led to intense negotiations, resulting in improved wages, reduced healthcare costs, and better terms for working conditions.

The drivers, represented by Teamsters Locals 61, 71, and 391, operate in locations across Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. The newly agreed-upon four-year collective bargaining agreement is seen as a testament to the resolve and unity of the Teamsters in the region.

Mike McGaha, President of Local 391 and Teamsters Joint Council 9, remarked, “The solidarity demonstrated by our membership across the South forced US Foods management to deliver the strong contract that these hardworking Teamsters deserved. We’re proud to have secured an agreement that increases wages, improves benefits, and raises standards for our members.”

This contract is part of a series of successful negotiations for the Teamsters, who represent over 5,500 US Foods employees nationwide. Earlier in the year, drivers from Teamsters Local 853 also ratified a robust contract after a prolonged strike, highlighting the union's growing influence.

Expressing his satisfaction with the outcome, Glenn Tyler, a driver at US Foods and member of Local 71, said, “We showed US Foods that we would not settle for less. It feels great heading into work knowing we are protected and rewarded under such a strong Teamsters contract.”

US Foods, a leading food service distributor with a market capitalization exceeding $17 billion, has seen its labor relations evolve as the Teamsters continue to leverage their collective bargaining power. This victory marks another milestone for the union's efforts to enhance conditions for its members nationwide.

Tom Erickson, Director of the Teamsters Warehouse Division, noted, “We are flexing our muscles at US Foods and winning game-changing contracts for our members nationwide. US Foods management knows that if they fail to do right by our members, we will hold them accountable. These victories show exactly why every worker at this company should become a Teamster.”

For more than a century, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters has represented workers across the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico, with a membership currently numbering 1.3 million.
