In a remarkable display of unity, none of the workers crossed the picket line during the strike. "This agreement is a testament to the determination and solidarity of the hardworking Teamsters who serve the City of Solvang," stated Jeff Lee, a business representative for Local 986. "Our members stood together for five weeks, not just for themselves, but for the principle that public service deserves to be valued and respected. Their courage and commitment to one another made this agreement possible."

The workers’ actions have highlighted their determination to be fairly compensated for the essential services they provide to the Solvang community. With the new contract pending approval by the Solvang City Council on October 26, the deal signifies a crucial step forward for the employees.

Ray Whitmer, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 986, commented on the unity displayed, "Not one member crossed the picket line during this five-week strike. That speaks volumes about the strength and unity of this group. Our members stood their ground, fought for what they deserved, and secured a contract that recognizes the value of their work. This is what Teamsters solidarity is all about."
