AFSCME President Commemorates National Correctional Officers Week

Lee Saunders, the President of AFSCME, has issued a statement honoring the National Correctional Officers Week, scheduled for May 5-11, 2024.

"Correctional officers and employees ensure community safety around the clock, regardless of the physical and mental demands of their job. The respect they deserve is immense, yet they currently face severe staffing shortages, putting them and their communities at significant risk. In some instances, a single officer could be overseeing hundreds of inmates during a shift, exacerbating the danger to officers, staff and the community."

"We must honor corrections officers and employees' sacrifices by supporting their efforts to elevate their profession. This week should act as a catalyst to secure the essential support these frontline workers urgently need."
