The decision for over 30 Pepsi employees in Stonecrest, Georgia, to affiliate with Teamsters Local 528 is a significant move toward enhancing their working conditions. These sales representatives seek improved wages, better job protections, and increased workplace respect.
Jeff Padellaro, Director of the Teamsters Brewery, Bakery, and Soft Drink Conference, expressed pride in their inclusion: “We are proud to welcome these new members to the Teamsters. This win follows a string of organizing wins at Pepsi facilities in Georgia. These workers are a determined group, and they know they deserve more than they are currently getting.”
Despite attempts by the company to delay unionization by offering to make improvements over a year, the workers maintained their resolve to push for more immediate and substantial change in their employment terms.
Donnie Newell, Business Agent with Local 528, commended the workers' determination: “This strong and dedicated group remained focused and were not willing to be deterred from their goal of becoming Teamsters. We have great momentum at this company and look forward to supporting this group as they fight for a fair first contract.”
Alfred Kitchens, bringing nearly three decades of experience as a sales representative, voiced the collective sentiment: “We felt that we couldn’t put our trust in the company, so we came together as a team to help everyone understand the benefits of joining the union. We couldn’t be happier that we were able to work not only as coworkers but now as family to win this election. We are excited to go on to fight for a strong Teamster contract.”
Local 528 continues to provide representation for thousands of workers across Georgia. Additional details can be found on their website: teamsterslocal528.org.
