North America's Building Trades Unions (NABTU) Commemorates D-Day Anniversary
In a statement released June 6, 2024 from Washington, D.C., NABTU President Sean McGarvey pays tribute to those who fought on D-Day, 80 years ago.
McGarvey emphasizes the unity and bravery that characterized this historic milestone, stating, “The soldiers, airmen, and sailors who courageously stormed the Normandy beaches were diverse, yet united in their mission to defend democracy and liberate the oppressed."
In reflecting on the legacy of the greatest generation, McGarvey underlines the continued importance of the principles these men fought for. "Democratic values worldwide remain under threat today by authoritarianism, division, and intolerance. The principles they fought for — freedom, equality, and justice — are still being challenged."
He advocates for standing up for democracy as a tribute to the greatest generation, stating, “Our respect for the greatest generation should be shown by defending our democracy, ensuring the ideals they bravely battled for are not only remembered but realized for all."
