On June 19, 2024, Sean McGarvey, President of North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU), expressed solidarity with the nation in marking Juneteenth. This date signifies the legal emancipation of formerly enslaved Black Americans and serves as a stark reminder of the US's history of slavery and systemic racism.

McGarvey emphasized that Juneteenth is more than a historical reflection; it's a celebration of the resilience, accomplishments, and contributions of Black Americans. This day also serves as a rallying cry for everyone to contribute to creating a more equitable and inclusive society.

While honoring Juneteenth, NABTU reiterated their dedication to standing with all marginalized communities. They stand for fostering diversity, promoting equality, and striving to make workplaces and communities where everyone can flourish.

McGarvey concluded by stating that the path towards true equality is still a long one, but expressed optimism that through collaboration, a future can be built that's rooted in justice, unity, and opportunity for all.
