Michigan Drivers Successfully Unionize at Kroger Fulfillment Center

289 drivers from Romulus Kroger Fulfillment Center have made history by voting to join Teamsters Local 337 in Detroit, marking the first time workers from a Kroger fulfillment center in the U.S. have unionized.

Alcie Duckett, a driver at the center, expressed, “We’ve made history! We’re setting the stage for improved job security, better working conditions, and fair treatment for future employees. We expect more workers at other Kroger fulfillment centers will follow suit.”

Duckett and her colleagues aim to negotiate a strong Teamsters contract, which will secure better wages, improved health and welfare benefits, a pension, and fair work rules.

Todd Lince, President of Local 337 and Teamsters Warehouse Division Representative, recognized the efforts of the organizing committee and their unyielding support. He praised the Kroger workers' commitment to creating a better work environment, stating, “They have set a powerful example for workers everywhere. We are incredibly proud to have organized the first Kroger fulfillment center in the U.S.”

After certification from the National Labor Relations Board, Local 337 will initiate proposal meetings and start the bargaining process to address workers’ concerns.

Tom Erickson, Director of the Teamsters Warehouse Division, described the organizing campaign as a significant victory for the drivers at Romulus Kroger Fulfillment Center and for the entire Teamsters Union. He said, “Kroger workers are standing strong to secure a better future as Teamsters.”
