Las Vegas Warehouse Workers Align with Teamsters for Enhanced Benefits
In an assertive move towards better work conditions, over 120 warehouse workers at Kroger in Las Vegas have opted to become members of Teamsters Local 14. This decision reflects a significant stride in their quest for improved salaries, enhanced job security, and reliable retirement packages.
Rodney Underwood, a newly minted member of Local 14, expressed his enthusiasm about the unionization: “We joined the Teamsters because it’s time we receive the protections, pay, and benefits we deserve. We are excited to have formed our union and look forward to negotiating our first Teamsters contract.”
This development is part of a larger trend within Kroger, with workers actively seeking union representation. Earlier instances include 289 drivers at Kroger’s Romulus Fulfilment Center joining Teamsters Local 337, and an overwhelming 96 percent vote by drivers in Forest Park, Georgia to join Teamsters Local 528.
Jason Gateley, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 14, hailed this as a major success, stating, “This is a tremendous victory, and we're proud to welcome these workers to Local 14. We’re ready to fight for a first contract that delivers the wages, benefits, respect, and dignity these hardworking Teamsters have earned.”
The momentum seems to be building within the warehouse sector, as highlighted by Tom Erickson, Director of the Teamsters Warehouse Division. Erickson noted, “Kroger workers know that the only way to achieve fair treatment, strong protections, and a voice on the job is by becoming Teamsters. We’re committed to organizing more workers at this company and throughout the industry to ensure they get the respect they deserve.”
The International Brotherhood of Teamsters, founded in 1903, represents 1.3 million workers across the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico. For further information, visit Teamster.org. Stay updated by following them on X @Teamsters and liking their page on Facebook at Facebook.com/teamsters.
