In a significant move towards worker empowerment, drivers employed by CPC Logistics in Joliet, Illinois, have opted to unionize under Teamsters Local 179. The 42-member workforce, responsible for transporting goods for major corporations like John Deere, Procter & Gamble, and Walgreens, aims for enhanced wages, better benefits, and protection against arbitrary employment termination.

Robert Morris, one of the drivers, articulated the collective sentiment, stating, “I chose to join the Teamsters because silence protects the system — solidarity changes it. With the Teamsters behind us, we’re ready to fight for a fair agreement that guarantees us respect on the job.”

This development is part of a broader trend, as over 150 CPC Logistics employees across Illinois, Texas, and New Jersey have joined the Teamsters.

Chris Richter, President of Local 179, expressed enthusiasm about the unionization, remarking, “This is a great win not just for these workers but for the entire interstate trucking industry. We are ready to hit the ground running to help these workers secure the standard-setting contract they want and deserve. On behalf of all the rest of our brothers and sisters at Local 179, it’s an honor to welcome these drivers to our ranks.”

Teamsters Local 179 serves a diverse group of workers in suburban Chicago and Northern Illinois. For additional details, visit teamsters179.org.
