Core-Mark Drivers Unite with Teamsters for Collective Bargaining
(ORANGE, Calif.) – In a decisive move, 70 drivers at Core-Mark have opted to unite under Teamsters Local 952. This initiative reflects their collective demand for improved wages, enhanced benefits, and safer working environments.
Michael Cantewell, a driver and a fresh member of Local 952, emphasized, “We joined the Teamsters because we needed a real voice on the job. Without a union, management treated us like numbers. Now we’re unified and ready to secure a first contract that puts our rights in writing and protects every one of us.”
Core-Mark, recognized as North America's largest wholesale distributor to convenience stores, was acquired by Performance Food Group (PFG) in 2021 for $2.5 billion. Serving thousands of stores nationwide, the company specializes in delivering a range of fresh, chilled, and frozen products.
Eric Jimenez, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 952, applauded the drivers for their resilience against the company’s anti-union efforts. “I want to congratulate these workers for having the courage to stand up to the company’s union-busting campaign and win the representation they deserve. We are going to keep up our fight for our newest members as we negotiate a strong first contract.”
Teamsters currently represent over 2,000 workers within PFG and its subsidiaries. Last year, drivers at VISTAR, another PFG entity, successfully joined Teamsters Local 853, resisting hefty expenditures on union-busting tactics, reportedly costing up to $425 per hour.
Tom Erickson, Director of the Teamsters Warehouse Division, remarked on the growing influence of the union within the company. “We’re building power at PFG because workers know the best way to win respect on the job is with a Teamsters contract. We will continue organizing across this company and raising standards for every worker in the food distribution industry.”
With a legacy dating back to 1903, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters represents 1.3 million dedicated members across the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico. For further details, visit Teamster.org. Follow updates on X @Teamsters and on Facebook at Facebook.com/teamsters.
