AFSCME Members in Wisconsin Demand Accountability from Rep. Van Orden
Residents of Western Wisconsin Rally for Economic Relief
The people of Western Wisconsin are voicing their concerns over the increasing costs of essential goods and services. They are calling for political leaders who will prioritize making life more affordable rather than adding to their financial burdens.
Last Wednesday, outside La Crosse Human Services, AFSCME members along with local community allies gathered to demand accountability from Representative Derrick Van Orden. The crowd highlighted the escalating prices of everyday essentials such as groceries, healthcare, and childcare that are affecting families across the region.
During the gathering, many participants shared personal stories illustrating how rising expenses and proposed service cuts are impacting their lives and communities. The collective call to action was clear: Rep. Van Orden should choose to support working families over wealthy interests.
Sue Conard, the president of AFSCME Wisconsin Retirees Chapter 32, stated, “Derrick Van Orden needs to stop siding with the wealthy and powerful while working people in western Wisconsin struggle to afford the basics. Families are paying more for groceries, health care, and other everyday needs, and they deserve a representative who will fight to lower costs and protect the public services our communities count on, not make life harder for the people who keep this state running.”
AFSCME members have committed to continued organization and advocacy efforts to ensure that families receive the necessary economic relief and that leaders remain accountable.
