WA Teamsters Approve Waste Management Contract

Teamsters Locals 117, 174, and 231 proudly announce the ratification of a new collective bargaining agreement with Waste Management. The agreement, ratified with an impressive 99% margin, covers over 640 workers including drivers, mechanics, and washers across Skagit and King Counties.

Previously, these locals negotiated separately. "Those days are now over,” says Rick Hicks, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 174. Presenting a united front, the combined group secured one of the most impressive union contracts to date.

Rich Ewing, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 231, rejoices for the levelling of the playing field. He expresses excitement for Local 117 members, who are now included in this collaborative agreement, increasing bargaining power and ensuring future benefits.

Featuring some of the largest immediate wage increases in Teamsters' history at Waste Management, the contract also comprises strong pension increases, maintenance of top-tier health care benefits, enhanced paid time-off policies, and Veterans Day as a paid holiday.

Paul Dascher, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 117, acknowledges that this multi-local agreement is proof that coordinated bargaining can result in excellent health care, great wages, and meaningful retirement security for members.

Member of Local 117, Matthew Lim, describes the agreement as "the best contract I’ve ever seen," recognizing it provides stability and protection in every important aspect including health care, wages, pension, and working conditions.
