Detroit Axle Workers Approve New Contract with Daimler Truck

REDFORD, MI — In a significant development, UAW members at Detroit Axle have overwhelmingly approved a new collective bargaining agreement with Daimler Truck of North America. The decision, backed by 84% of the voters, impacts over 400 employees at the Redford facility, responsible for manufacturing axles and transmissions.

The freshly ratified contract introduces profit-sharing and Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) benefits for Detroit Axle employees for the first time. It also promises significant wage increases for some workers, with potential raises reaching up to 50% during the agreement's duration.

UAW Region 1A Director, Laura Dickerson, expressed her satisfaction with the outcome, stating, “I would like to congratulate the hardworking membership and bargaining committee at Detroit Axle on this major win. This agreement brings long overdue financial gains for our membership at Detroit Axle.” She emphasized the power of collective action, adding, “UAW members in Region 1A are showing that corporate greed is no match for working people. When we stand together, we win!”

Mike Stack, a skilled trades worker on the second shift at Detroit Axle, highlighted the union's preparedness and determination, saying, “We were prepared to use every tool in the toolbox to win this contract. We were informed, wore red shirts on Wednesdays to show our unity, and ultimately voted 99% to authorize a strike.” He noted that Daimler recognized the need to fairly compensate those who contribute to the company’s profitability.
