Teamsters Triumph in Florida with New Beverage Industry Contract

After enduring over a year on the strike line, 160 determined Teamsters members have successfully negotiated a groundbreaking contract with Breakthru Beverage across multiple Florida locations. The contract, ratified today, marks a significant victory for drivers in Tampa, Fort Myers, Jacksonville, Orlando, Pensacola, and Tallahassee, exactly 400 days after their unionization vote.

The newly approved three-year agreement promises substantial wage increases, enhanced paid leave, and core union protections such as seniority rights and a guaranteed 40-hour work week.

Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien expressed the union’s steadfast commitment, stating, “Breakthru Beverage picked a fight with the wrong union. For 400 days, these drivers stood on the line, every single day, and never once backed down. The company tried every dirty trick to divide our members, but we didn’t flinch. Our members didn’t give in. And today, they’ve won. Let this be a warning: if you try to test the resolve of Teamsters, you will always fail.”

Jeff Padellaro, Director of the Teamsters Brewery, Bakery, and Soft Drink Conference, praised the perseverance of the members, saying, “I congratulate the members and locals across Florida who made this hard-earned contract victory possible. Our members will return to work with their heads held high and their solidarity stronger than ever.”

As one of North America's leading beverage wholesalers, Breakthru Beverage operates in 15 states, Canada, and the District of Columbia. The Teamsters maintain a robust presence in the wine and liquor industry, advocating for numerous workers at Breakthru locations nationwide.

Yuniel Sancillena, a veteran driver and Local 79 member, highlighted the contract’s significance: “Winning this strong Teamsters contract is about security, respect, and knowing our hard work truly matters. This victory shows the power of standing together as one union. This is only the beginning!”
