(WYOMISSING, Pa.) – After standing firm for 20 days, union workers at Sunnyside Dispensary have won a landmark contract. Sunnyside, linked with Cresco Labs, a key player in the cannabis sector, was the battleground for this labor victory.
Bill Shappell, President of Local 429, remarked, “Our members showed incredible unity and determination during this strike. They made it clear that fair wages, health care, and respect on the job are non-negotiable. This contract reflects their hard work and ensures a stronger, more secure future for everyone at Sunnyside.”
The newly agreed contract stands out for its significant wage hikes, enhanced health care benefits, secured gratuities, and safeguards against unwarranted disciplinary actions or terminations. Additionally, part-time workers gained improved job security and more paid time off.
Jesse Case, Director of the Teamsters Food Processing Division, commented, “The dedication and solidarity of Local 429 members throughout this strike shows the power of organized labor. These workers are setting a standard for the cannabis industry and demonstrating that collective action produces real results.”
