Major Gains for Montana Sysco Workers with New Union Contract

In a significant development for labor negotiations, over 225 Sysco drivers and warehouse employees in Montana, organized under Teamsters Local 2, 120, and 190, have approved a comprehensive five-year union contract. The new agreement is set to provide substantial improvements in wages and benefits.

Jim Sousmas, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 190, emphasized the pivotal role of member solidarity in reaching this milestone. "The strength of our membership made this agreement possible," he stated. "This is the strongest agreement we have ever negotiated at Sysco, and it will greatly benefit our members and their families over the next five years."

Representing more than 13,000 Sysco workers across the nation, the Teamsters achieved this outcome following a strong strike threat and a unanimous strike vote, compelling Sysco management to seriously address the workers' demands. The ratified contract includes a 33% increase in wages, a 40% hike in pension contributions, and comprehensive Teamsters-provided health care.

This successful negotiation in Montana is part of a larger trend of robust Teamsters agreements throughout Sysco's operations over the past year, highlighted by the first-ever regional contract finalized in December. Earlier in February, Sysco Teamsters in Spokane, Wash., ratified a new agreement featuring a 34% wage increase, lower health care costs, and increased pension benefits.

"Across the country, Teamsters at Sysco are securing contracts that set the standard in the food distribution industry," commented Tom Erickson, President of Local 120 and Director of the Teamsters Warehouse Division. "These agreements send a clear message to corporate America and they’re improving the lives of thousands of hardworking Teamsters at Sysco."
