(STAFFORD, Va.) – A significant achievement has been marked by over 500 drivers and warehouse workers at Genesis Logistics as they successfully ratify their inaugural Teamsters contract. Represented by Teamsters Local 322 and Local 639, these employees now benefit from enhanced wages, increased paid leave, and better working conditions.
Emphasizing the importance of this achievement, Matthew Relford, a Genesis Logistics driver and Local 322 member, stated, “Winning our first Teamsters contract is a promise of stability, dignity, and a future built alongside our sisters and brothers. Our agreement means fair wages, real benefits, and the strength that comes from sticking together. As Teamsters, we are able to build something greater than ourselves.”
The route to unionization began last year when drivers at the Stafford facility voted by an overwhelming 90 percent to join the Teamsters. This successful campaign inspired strong support for union representation among warehouse workers, eventually leading Genesis Logistics management to voluntarily acknowledge Local 639 through a card-check agreement.
Amanda Pallant, a warehouse worker and Local 639 member, reflected on the contract’s significance: “Our first contract is a strong foundation that we fully intend to build on. Together with our fellow drivers, we secured guaranteed wage increases, just-cause protections, and enforceable rights in our workplace. Most importantly, this process brought us together across job classifications and strengthened our solidarity.”
Genesis Logistics plays a key role in distributing pre-packaged food and other products for 7-Eleven, with the Stafford distribution center supplying convenience stores across the Mid-Atlantic. With the new agreements in place, the Stafford facility is now entirely represented by the Teamsters.
Bill Davis, President of Local 639, praised the workers’ efforts, stating, “These workers overcame a lot to reach this moment, and their determination is what made this agreement possible. We’re proud to have secured strong first contracts for our newest members, and we look forward to building on this momentum to continue raising standards for workers in this industry.”
