U.S. and Egypt Strengthen Maritime Infrastructure and AI Cooperation

In a significant move to bolster international cooperation, the United States and Egypt have spotlighted potential enhancements in maritime infrastructure, artificial intelligence, and digital technologies. This collaboration was the focal point of the U.S.–Egypt Ports Infrastructure and Maritime Innovation Forum, recently convened in New Cairo.

U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Robert Silverman, alongside U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce Mark Mitchell, inaugurated the forum. This important event served as a platform for Egyptian officials and prominent U.S. companies to explore and discuss potential avenues for investment and technology partnerships.

Egyptian Minister of Transport Kamel El-Wazir also addressed attendees, highlighting American technologies' potential to support Egypt’s evolving port infrastructure and AI sectors.

Silverman emphasized, “The United States supports Egypt's pursuit of building a world-class maritime infrastructure,” underlining the readiness of American companies to engage in new projects and strengthen commercial ties between the two nations.

Mitchell identified Egypt as a “globally important trade and technology crossroads,” underscoring how bilateral cooperation will enhance the security and resilience of the country's infrastructure.

“Our collaboration builds security and strategic resilience into Egypt’s infrastructure – from modernizing maritime transport and expanding the Suez Canal corridor to deploying secure, world-class American AI tech stack and data infrastructure,” Mitchell stated. He noted that partnerships with leading U.S. innovators could advance Egypt's position in regional supply chain resilience and digital transformation.

The forum gathered key figures, including the Chairman of the General Authority of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) Moustafa Shaikhon, and Governor of North Sinai Major General Khaled Mogawer, among others. These discussions aimed at connecting American companies with opportunities in Egypt’s burgeoning data, cloud, maritime, and logistics sectors, particularly focusing on private-sector investment and technical partnerships.

As per the U.S. Embassy, this initiative is part of a larger effort to enhance bilateral trade and fuel Egypt’s economic expansion by leveraging U.S. innovation and expertise.

The forum is a segment of a larger U.S. commercial mission aimed at expanding strategic cooperation with Egypt in infrastructure and maritime transport. Participating U.S. firms are slated for further consultations with SCZONE officials and the Governor of North Sinai, followed by a visit to Safaga Port. Here, they will investigate potential collaborations in maritime logistics, terminal management, and port expansion.
