NYSDOT to Invest $600 Million in 180 Paving Projects by 2026

New York State is gearing up for a significant enhancement in its road infrastructure, with the Department of Transportation planning to funnel over $600 million into more than 180 paving projects across the state by the conclusion of 2026.

This ambitious initiative aims to resurface nearly 2,150 lane miles and joins the suite of projects within the agency's existing core programs. It's poised to set a new record for the state's annual road resurfacing efforts.

Governor Kathy Hochul's administration underscores the importance of this effort, emphasizing that bolstering transportation infrastructure is vital for public safety and improving the quality of life throughout New York. As a part of this, NYSDOT is leveraging $800 million from the latest state budget to boost the final two years of a five-year, $34.3 billion Capital Plan.

In a statement, Gov. Hochul highlighted the transformative nature of the plan: “New Yorkers will be seeing crews out there like never before next year, rejuvenating highways, enhancing the safety of the traveling public, and laying a solid foundation for economic development across the Empire State.”

Further stressing the governor's objectives, Marie Therese Dominguez, the commissioner of NYSDOT, stated that the funding initiative exemplifies a steadfast dedication to upgrading the state's roads to suit modern challenges. She remarked, “We are putting that commitment into high gear with an historic paving agenda for 2026 that will provide easier travel on roads from one end of the state to the other. Infrastructure investments like these are foundational to the future of the New York that Governor Hochul is building—a future that is affordable, safe and healthy for all residents.”
