Center on Global Energy Policy Expands Team with New Key Appointments

In a strategic move to broaden its influence in the fields of critical minerals, trade policies, and energy transitions, the Center on Global Energy Policy (CGEP) at Columbia University SIPA has introduced a range of new experts to its team. These individuals bring decades of experience from various sectors, including government, think tanks, and private industry.

"At CGEP, we are committed to expanding both our research expertise on today’s most critical energy and climate issues and our role as a home for the world's most timely and impactful conversations on global energy policy," stated Jason Bordoff, Founding Director of CGEP. "Our new staff and non-resident fellows embody this mission—strengthening our research and convening capacity while advancing work on securing critical mineral supply chains, navigating the intersection of climate and trade policy, and making sense of an increasingly complex geopolitical landscape."

New CGEP Staff Members

Amy Baker, now the Managing Director of Research Affairs, previously held senior roles at the Council on Foreign Relations. Her expertise lies in administration, operations, and project management, having led various initiatives and development programs. Her academic background includes a Master’s degree in politics from New York University.

Pamela Tamay joins as Deputy Director of Event Strategy. Formerly at Columbia Business School, she has significant experience in finance and operations, particularly in orchestrating major events and alumni programs. She holds dual bachelor’s degrees from CUNY Hunter College.

Evelyne Williams has been appointed as a Research Associate. Her previous role was at the U.S. Department of State as a Foreign Affairs Officer, where she was involved in international climate negotiations and carbon pricing discussions. Williams is a recipient of the State Department's Colin Powell Leadership Program fellowship.

Appointed Non-Resident Fellows

Tim Boersma, a Director at Berkeley Research Group, brings a wealth of expertise in energy and climate from his previous roles in academia and consultancy. He holds a Ph.D. in International Relations from the University of Groningen.

Kevin Brunelli previously managed critical minerals diplomacy at the U.S. State Department. His specialization includes critical minerals, energy technologies, and economic statecraft, bolstered by his academic credentials from Columbia SIPA.

Theodore Bunzel is currently the Head of Lazard Geopolitical Advisory. His extensive background in corporate strategy and geopolitical risk analysis is complemented by his academic achievements from Yale and Stanford Business School.

Rohit Chandra, an Assistant Professor at IIT-Delhi, focuses on energy and economic history in India. His policy work spans coal sector reforms and state power utilities, backed by a Ph.D. from Harvard's Kennedy School of Government.

Noah Deich served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Carbon Management at the US Department of Energy. Co-founder of Carbon180, Deich continues to contribute as a Senior Advisor, with additional roles in climate-focused fellowships.

Helaina Matza, Chief Strategic Development Officer at TechMet Ltd., specializes in strategic partnerships and development. Her previous government roles focused on international economic and climate policy engagements, supported by her studies at George Washington University.

Gregoire Roos, Director for Europe and Russia at Chatham House, advances research on geopolitics and European industrial competitiveness. His leadership roles include positions at the World Economic Forum and the Delphi Economic Forum.

Gwynne Taraska brings expertise in energy policy from her tenure in various U.S. government roles, including work with the Special Presidential Envoy for Climate. Her background includes directing roles at prominent climate policy organizations.
