GE Aerospace Workers Vote to Strike Over Job Security and Health Costs

GE Aerospace Workers Authorize Potential Strike Amid Contract Negotiations

CINCINNATI— In a recent development, GE Aerospace workers represented by UAW Local 647 have voted decisively, with 84% in favor, to authorize a strike as their contract nears expiration on August 27. This includes the Evendale, OH plant, where industrial and marine engines for the U.S. Navy are manufactured, and the Erlanger, KY distribution hub, which supports GE's global operations. The main issues at the center of this dispute include job security, healthcare costs, and time off.

UAW Local 647 President Brian Strunk remarked, “Nobody wants to strike, but UAW members at GE Aerospace are overwhelmingly ready to because of the company’s outright insulting offers on the table.” He further highlighted the unsustainability of a proposed 36% hike in health insurance, especially contrasting it with CEO Larry Culp's $89 million earnings in 2024 alone.

GE Aerospace, between 2022 and 2024, has achieved record revenues exceeding $100 billion and has distributed over $16 billion to shareholders. The pay disparity is stark, with CEO Larry Culp's compensation being more than 1,200 times that of the median worker.

As negotiations continue, UAW members criticize GE’s counteroffers, which include a 36% increase in healthcare costs over four years and neglect of essential proposals. The rising healthcare expenses are noted as a significant financial strain for GE workers.

Efforts to rally support have seen UAW-GE workers organizing solidarity walks every Wednesday at the Erlanger and Evendale sites. Photos and videos from these events are available for download here. Additional UAW-distributed videos can be accessed in this playlist. For further details on the bargaining process, visit ge.uaw.org.
