AFPA's ULP Settled: Original Health Insurance Costs Restored
The Association of Professional Flight Attendants (AFPA) recently reached a settlement regarding an Unfair Labor Practice (ULP) filed against its own officers. The issue arose when they were accused of conducting negotiations in bad faith during a labor dispute that spanned from October 16th to 18th, 2024.
During these discussions, assurances were made by the company that there would be no changes to the members' health insurance cost share. However, in a turn of events, the chairperson received a notification in November 2024, indicating that the cost share would be doubled starting January 2025.
The AFPA requested Effects-Bargaining, which was held only once, as the company then declined to return to discussions. Consequently, the ULP complaint was lodged on April 24, 2025.
After several months, the matter was resolved on October 1, 2025, with the company agreeing to revert to the original health insurance cost share. Members affected by the change were reimbursed for the difference.
