National Nurses United Supports ICE Out of Minnesota Day of Action

National Nurses United Backs Minnesota’s Day of Action Against ICE

National Nurses United, the country’s largest union of registered nurses, released a statement ahead of the ‘ICE out of Minnesota’ Day of Action on Friday, Jan. 23:

In a show of solidarity, National Nurses United (NNU) has expressed full support for the Minnesota residents participating in strikes and economic slowdowns to oppose ICE and the Trump administration. The union, representing registered nurses, recognizes the impact of collective action against injustices, drawing parallels between the fight against poor healthcare practices and the opposition to federal deportation efforts.

The actions of ICE in Minnesota and nationwide have been condemned by NNU. As advocates for public health, the union emphasizes that the presence of armed federal agents poses a larger threat to community safety than immigrant workers. They accuse President Trump of instilling fear among immigrants to divert attention from other policies, such as healthcare funding cuts that benefit the wealthy and increase immigration enforcement.

NNU firmly states that ICE should not operate within healthcare facilities or communities, and questions its role as a federal institution. The union pledges to lead efforts to dismantle ICE and collaborate with patients, communities, and workers to achieve a vision for a healthier society.

National Nurses United is the largest and fastest-growing union and professional association of registered nurses in the United States, boasting over 225,000 members. The union’s affiliates include the California Nurses Association/National Nurses Organizing Committee, DC Nurses Association, Michigan Nurses Association, Minnesota Nurses Association, and New York State Nurses Association.
