National Nurses United Endorses Peggy Flanagan for U.S. Senate in Minnesota

Nurses Union Endorses Peggy Flanagan for U.S. Senate

The largest union of registered nurses in the United States, National Nurses United (NNU), has declared its support for Peggy Flanagan in her bid for the U.S. Senate seat in Minnesota. Flanagan, who currently serves as the lieutenant governor of Minnesota, has been recognized for her efforts in addressing health care disparities, particularly through initiatives aimed at improving health outcomes for children, working families, and marginalized communities.

NNU President Mary Turner, RN, emphasized the importance of leadership in advocating for vulnerable communities, stating, “Minnesotans are currently fighting a coordinated assault on our immigrant communities in our state. We need leaders who are ready to center the safety, health, and well-being of every one of our neighbors and community members. Nurses know Peggy Flanagan will fight for every Minnesotan and we’re ready to work with her.”

Expressing gratitude for the endorsement, Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan remarked, “I’m deeply honored to earn the endorsement of National Nurses United. Nurses are trusted caregivers who show up every day for our families and our communities, and their union fights to make sure they have what they need to do that work safely and with dignity. From standing up to corporate greed in health care to fighting for Medicare for All and the right to organize, nurses are leading the fight for a future where people come first. When I go to the U.S. Senate, I’ll carry those values with me. I’m proud to stand with nurses and grateful to be in this fight together.”

NNU backs candidates who align with the union’s core values, which include ensuring safe patient staffing, safeguarding workers' rights to unionize, and providing universal health care. A recent Gallup poll highlighted the trust placed in nurses, naming them the most trusted profession in the United States for the 24th consecutive year. NNU is eager to contribute to Peggy Flanagan’s election campaign and collaborate on critical issues impacting registered nurses, patients, and local communities.

National Nurses United, representing over 225,000 members nationwide, is the largest and fastest-growing union and professional association of registered nurses in the United States. Among its affiliates are the California Nurses Association/National Nurses Organizing Committee, DC Nurses Association, Michigan Nurses Association, Minnesota Nurses Association, and New York State Nurses Association.
