(EL PASO, Texas) – A significant milestone has been reached for drivers and warehouse personnel at Southern Glazer's Wine & Spirits sites across Texas. With strong support, 36 workers from Teamsters Locals 745 and 577 have approved their inaugural collective bargaining agreement. These employees are stationed in El Paso, Longview, Lubbock, and Amarillo.
“Teamsters are leading the way when it comes to organizing in Texas,” stated Jeff Padellaro, Director of the Teamsters Brewery, Bakery, and Soft Drink Conference. He emphasized the importance of the agreement by saying, "Our members have won great agreements with industry-leading benefits. Members of Locals 745 and 577 should be proud of the strong first contract they have secured.”
The newly ratified contract promises improved wages, comprehensive Teamsters healthcare and pension plans, increased paid leave, alongside fortified union protections.
Recognizing the effort, Rod Cuevas, President of Local 745, remarked, “This agreement is reflective of the hard work and solidarity of the members at these four facilities.” He noted that the collaboration of the locals was pivotal in establishing a robust agreement, enhancing worker power and paving the way for future negotiations.
Alfonso C. Brito, President of Local 577, echoed this sentiment by stating, “When Teamsters work together, they get things done.” He praised the members for their collective achievements, saying, “This was a team effort, and our members should be proud of the contract they’ve won.”
The inclusion of these units into the existing contract established in Fort Worth further amplifies the union's bargaining strength.
Expressing enthusiasm, Nick Delgado, a Local 745 member and driver in El Paso, shared, “We are overjoyed and proud to have joined the union and secured a powerful Teamsters contract.” He added, “Now we finally have a collective voice to ensure fair treatment. This is a moment of empowerment for us, and we’re excited to stand together for the rights we’ve long deserved.”
