Construction Industry Mourns the Loss of Promising Young Welder
Washington, DC – November 16, 2025 – The tragic death of 20-year-old welder Amber Czech has sent shockwaves throughout the construction industry. Despite being at the very start of her career, Amber was recognized for her dedication and skill, embodying the best of what the construction workforce aims to represent.
Sean McGarvey, President of North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU), expressed the union’s sorrow and outrage:
"North America’s Building Trades Unions is devastated by the tragic and senseless murder of Amber Czech, a 20-year-old welder, who was just beginning her career in the trades. Amber exemplified the very best of the construction workforce with her determination, professionalism, and compassion."
Though Amber was not a member of NABTU, her passing has deeply affected the union and the broader construction community. McGarvey offered condolences to all of her loved ones, stating, “We mourn with all who knew her and extend our deepest condolences to Amber’s family, friends, and colleagues.”
Violent acts such as this have no place in the workplace, emphasized McGarvey. NABTU has taken a clear stance against such acts and is focused on fostering jobsite security through initiatives like the RESPECT program and TradesFutures TWBN. These initiatives aim to address harmful behaviors directly, ensuring a work environment where every individual is safe and respected.
McGarvey turned Amber’s loss into a rallying cry for change, insisting that her life should inspire renewed efforts to ensure construction sites are safe and inclusive. “Amber’s life and legacy must serve as a call to action. We will honor her memory by redoubling our efforts to make construction sites places of opportunity, safety, and solidarity.”
