The latest strike action involves employees at a RISE Dispensary, a part of Green Thumb Industries (GTI), who are protesting against what they describe as ineffective bargaining tactics.
After unanimously turning down the company's final proposal, workers have taken a stand, demanding fair compensation and workplace respect.
"Our members are sending a clear message: this strike will not end until GTI bargains in good faith and delivers the contract these workers deserve," stated Jesse Case, Director of the Teamsters Food Processing Division. "RISE workers see firsthand the billions in revenue this company makes, yet they’re expected to settle for less than their peers at other locations. We’re not letting that happen."
Workers at the York RISE dispensary are pushing for pay parity with colleagues at other branches. Despite GTI's billion-dollar revenue last year, ranking as the second-largest market cap among cannabis companies globally, employees claim they are undercompensated.
John Stambaugh, a Local 776 union member at RISE, expressed, "This strike isn’t just about us — it’s about showing that even a handful of dedicated workers can push back against a giant corporation when they’re not being treated fairly. We’re fighting for a contract that reflects our value and ensures we aren’t just disposable parts of their billion-dollar machine."
This marks the second strike by GTI Teamsters within three years, highlighting a broader trend in the cannabis sector where profits are climbing, yet frontline workers are seeking equal treatment — a movement being championed by Teamsters nationwide.
The International Brotherhood of Teamsters, established in 1903, represents 1.3 million workers in the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico. More information is available at Teamster.org. Follow them on X @Teamsters and on Facebook at Facebook.com/teamsters.
