AFA Honors Flight Attendants on 24th Anniversary of 9/11 Attacks

Flight Attendant Union Commemorates 9/11 Anniversary

Washington, DC (September 11, 2025) – The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA) has released a statement recognizing the 24th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, attacks, a day that profoundly impacted the nation and the flight attendant profession.

“On September 11, 2001, twenty-five Flight Attendants took action as first responders in a war we didn’t know we were fighting. These heroes were among the first to relay the intelligence that alerted our country and our flying partners on Flight 93, who in turn sacrificed their own lives to save countless others on the ground,” the statement reads.

In the aftermath of the tragic events, flight attendants and crew members played a crucial role in safely returning millions of passengers to their families. The responsibility of flight attendants has since expanded, adding the vital role as the last line of defense in aviation.

To honor the memory of those who lost their lives, a moment of silence was observed at 8:46 am Eastern Time across the Flight Attendant Union. An AFA Honor Guard consisting of flight attendants in uniform participated in services at the three national memorials located in New York, Shanksville, and the Pentagon. Flight attendants worldwide paid their respects in various personal ways, emphasizing their commitment to never forget the heroes of that day.

“We promised to Never Forget. We promised to Never Forget the events of that day and to ensure they never happen again. Our heroes will forever unite us,” the statement concluded.
