Shapiro Administration Converts Old Incinerator Site for Luzerne Businesses
Luzerne County's New Business Hub: Transformation from Incinerator to Opportunity
The once dormant site of a municipal incinerator in Luzerne County is set to be revitalized into a dynamic business hub. This transformation is being spearheaded by the Shapiro Administration, aiming to create a "shovel-ready" site for new business ventures.
The project, which is expected to breathe new life into the area, is being facilitated through a significant grant. The Greater Wilkes-Barre Industrial Fund has secured a $980,500 grant from the Industrial Site Reuse Program (ISRP). This funding is designated for the critical task of removing impacted soil from the site, a necessary step to make the land suitable for development.
According to the PA Department of Community & Economic Development, this initiative is expected to pave the way for future economic growth and job creation in the region. By converting the former industrial site into a business-ready environment, the county anticipates attracting companies that will contribute to the local economy.
Governor Josh Shapiro expressed his administration's commitment to fostering economic development across Pennsylvania, emphasizing the importance of transforming underutilized sites into productive assets. "We are investing in the future of Luzerne County by ensuring that this site can support business growth and job creation," said Shapiro.
The project underscores the strategic efforts by state and local authorities to redevelop brownfield sites, turning them into engines of economic opportunity. As the site undergoes its transformation, stakeholders remain optimistic about the potential it holds for the region's business landscape.
This initiative is part of a broader state-level strategy to enhance economic development by leveraging available resources and grants to rehabilitate and prepare sites for new business activities. With the groundwork being laid, Luzerne County is poised to become a hub of innovation and entrepreneurship, welcoming new businesses to the area.
