Pepsi-Cola Workers Ready to Strike in Georgia

In a bold move for labor rights, over 100 drivers from Pepsi-Cola's Atlanta and Lithonia locations have unanimously opted to initiate a strike, seeking improvements in their working conditions. These workers, affiliated with Teamsters Local 528 since January 2026, are advocating for equitable treatment and enhanced compensation.

The Director of the Teamsters Brewery, Bakery, and Soft Drink Conference, Jeff Padellaro, emphasized the lack of progress in negotiations, stating, “Pepsi has been dragging their feet since the beginning and refusing to put serious offers on the table. Our members are ready to strike, and if management doesn’t come back to the table ready to negotiate, they will be forced to head to the picket line.”

Local 528 President Donnie Newell accused the company of attempting anti-union tactics, highlighting, “The company has been trying to union bust since before this group even organized. They’ve continued their efforts by repeatedly offering workers insulting proposals that include no raise in the first few years of the contract. This is unacceptable.”

In response to stalled negotiations, the local union has lodged unfair labor practice complaints against Pepsi-Cola's management, citing their lack of sincere bargaining efforts.

Javon Kersey, a driver with Pepsi-Cola and union member, voiced the workers' frustration: “We work hard every day on behalf of Pepsi-Cola and want to be treated fairly. It’s time for management to stop dragging their feet and to negotiate a fair contract. We don’t want to strike, but the company is leaving us with no other option.”

Teamsters Local 528 continues to support thousands of workers across Georgia. For further details, visit teamsterslocal528.org.
