In San José, California, a significant labor agreement has been reached and approved by more than 60 workers from California Waste Solutions. Represented by Teamsters Local 350, these drivers and mechanics have ratified a five-year contract that ensures substantial wage increases, enhanced worker protections, and extended vacation benefits.

Sergio Arrañaga, the chief negotiator and business agent for Local 350, remarked on the achievement, "With today’s economic challenges, our members now more than ever are rising up to demand respect and dignity in their workplaces. With this strong contract, they have shown their commitment to raising the bar for workers across the entire waste industry." Arrañaga emphasized the collaborative effort that led to securing the new contract.

These workers play an essential role in providing residential recycling services to over 170,000 households in the San José region, highlighting the importance of their labor in community sustainability efforts.

Robert Sandoval, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 350, noted the expectations held during negotiations: "Every time we sit down at the bargaining table, we know the expectation of the members is to raise the bar. This contract does exactly that with strong economic improvements, new work protections, and an industry-leading ninth week of vacation time." He also expressed gratitude to the bargaining committee for their steadfast commitment to the needs of their colleagues.
