New Jersey Teamsters Back Lawmakers Committed to Strengthening Labor Rights
In a strong display of their commitment to workers' rights, New Jersey Teamsters have announced their endorsements for Congressional candidates. These candidates have a clear track record of supporting labor, demonstrated by their backing of the Faster Labor Contracts Act (FLCA).
Among the endorsed politicians are Democrat Senator Cory Booker, known for his co-authorship of the Senate version of the FLCA and for recognizing his campaign team’s union under Teamsters back in 2020. Donald Norcross, representing the 1st District, not only co-authored the FLCA but also stands as Chair of the Congressional Labor Caucus. He has consistently supported measures like the Butch-Lewis Act to safeguard collective bargaining rights for federal employees.
The Teamsters have also extended their endorsements to several other lawmakers: Jeff Van Drew (R-2nd District), Herb Conaway (D-3rd District), Chris Smith (R-4th District), Josh Gottheimer (D-5th District), Frank Pallone (D-6th District), Robert Menendez (D-8th District), Nellie Pou (D-9th District), LaMonica McIver (D-10th District), and Analilia Mejia (D-11th District).
Passed by the House of Representatives in June, the Faster Labor Contracts Act could soon be a landmark labor law, streamlining the process for newly organized workers to achieve their first collective bargaining agreements.
Al Rispoli, President of Teamsters Joint Council 73, emphasized the union's stance, stating, “There are more than 50,000 Teamsters throughout New Jersey, and they all agree that our union should only support politicians who support us.” He expressed appreciation for the bipartisan group of lawmakers who stood firm against significant lobbying pressures to vote against the FLCA.
The International Brotherhood of Teamsters, established in 1903, represents over 1.3 million workers across the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico. Learn more at Teamster.org. Stay connected via X at @Teamsters and on Facebook at Facebook.com/teamsters.
