New York Teamsters Secure 30% Wage Increase After Resolute Strike

Significant Gains for New York Teamsters in Newly Ratified Agreement

A recent labor agreement ratified by 200 Teamsters in New York marks a significant victory following a brief, but impactful, 24-hour strike. These members, part of Locals 118, 294, 317, 445, and 449, took a stand against Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits to push for improved wages, pension contributions, and working conditions.

“Our members were energized and prepared to stay on the picket line for as long as it took to get a fair agreement,” stated Jeff Padellaro, Director of the Teamsters Brewery, Bakery, and Soft Drink Conference. “In the end, they secured an excellent contract that rewards their hard work and dedication.”

The new five-year contract secures a 30 percent wage increase for the workers, alongside a 20 percent boost in employer contributions to the Teamsters Pension Fund. Furthermore, the agreement includes additional paid time off, full employer-paid health care, and safeguards against AI and automation impacts.

Timothy Barbeto, President of Local 118, noted, “Our brothers and sisters throughout New York stood strong for a fair contract. With the support of Teamsters across our state, they were able to win an agreement with significant improvements. We are truly better when we stand together.”

The unity and determination of the workers were pivotal in reaching this agreement. Brian Caccamise, a 20-year shop steward with Local 118, reflected, “Workers at all five locals were determined to remain united on the picket line. We weren’t giving up until we secured a contract that honored the work we do to make Southern Glazer’s successful. This was a team effort by all the stewards, business agents, and members involved.”
