North America’s Building Trades Unions Welcomes New Director of Capital Strategies
WASHINGTON, D.C. – August 13, 2026 – The North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU) is bringing in fresh leadership to steer its capital strategies. Dr. Cassandra L. Robertson, an experienced professional at the crossroads of labor, government, finance, and industry, will take on the role with a focus on transforming workers’ capital into union jobs and robust workforce pipelines geared towards fostering economic growth.
Dr. Robertson previously served as Director of Strategy at Ullico, a unique labor-owned insurance and investment company in the nation. Her earlier role as Special Assistant to the President at the White House National Economic Council had her spearheading labor and workforce initiatives and shaping policies to channel public and private investments into quality job creation.
Sean McGarvey, President of NABTU, commented, “At a time when historic investments are reshaping our economy, it is more important than ever that workers have a seat at the table and a stake in the prosperity they help create. Cassie understands how capital, policy, and workforce development come together to drive economic growth. She has a rare ability to bridge the worlds of labor, finance, and public policy, and she has spent her career building partnerships that connect investment to opportunity. She brings exactly the kind of strategic leadership NABTU needs as we work to ensure that investments in infrastructure, energy, manufacturing, and technology create long-term value for workers and communities. We are thrilled to welcome her to our leadership team.”
In her new capacity, Dr. Robertson will engage with key stakeholders, including labor leaders, institutional investors, and policymakers, to promote capital strategies that prioritize high-road investments and worker-centric industrial policies.
Expressing her enthusiasm about joining NABTU, Robertson remarked, “I’m honored to join NABTU at such a consequential moment for working people and the industries that are building our future. The Building Trades have long demonstrated that strong labor standards, skilled workers, and strategic investment create better outcomes for workers, communities, and investors alike. I look forward to expanding the partnerships and strategies that generate opportunity, strengthen our workforce, and ensure that investment delivers lasting value for working families and our nation.”
Dr. Robertson's academic credentials include a Ph.D. from Harvard University, with a focus on areas such as economic mobility and workforce development. Her work has consistently been geared towards labor markets and the policies shaping opportunities in the U.S.
