US Foods Workers Achieve Notable Gains With New Teamsters Contract
CLEVELAND — In a striking show of unity, 70 warehouse workers at US Foods have successfully voted to ratify their first Teamsters contract, securing significant improvements in wages, health care, and working conditions. Represented by Teamsters Local 507, the workers now enjoy a 17 percent wage hike and fully employer-paid Teamsters health care.
“Our members organized because they wanted better wages, improved benefits, and greater security on the job, and that is exactly what they won in this contract,” stated Dan Chavez, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 507. “As Teamsters, these workers secured an agreement that will make a real difference for them and their families.”
The motivation behind joining the Teamsters last year was clear for these Cleveland-based workers. Apart from wage increases, the contract introduces expanded vacation, a guaranteed 40-hour work week, and boosted holiday pay.
Lamonte Washington, a warehouse worker and Teamsters member, remarked, “Becoming Teamsters gave us the power to advocate for what we deserve and win the wages and benefits thousands of other US Foods Teamsters already have. This agreement delivers the improvements we organized for, and we’re proud to finally have the protections and security of a strong union contract.”
US Foods stands as one of the most prominent food service distributors with a market capitalization exceeding $21 billion. The Teamsters Union, which represents over 5,500 US Foods workers nationwide, ensures that Local 507 members in Cleveland supply essential goods to numerous restaurants, universities, and hospitals in the area.
“Every organizing victory and every strong contract increases our leverage at US Foods,” mentioned Tom Erickson, Director of the Teamsters Warehouse Division. “Teamsters across the country are using that collective strength to win substantial wage increases, strong benefits, and better working conditions. We are going to keep organizing workers at US Foods and continue to raise standards across this company.”
