CHOWCHILLA, Calif. – In a move to enhance their working conditions and benefits, 30 sanitation workers from Redrock Environmental Group have aligned themselves with Teamsters Local 431. The decision strengthens their collective bargaining power, aiming for improved wages, health care, and safety conditions.
“This is an important victory that will have a real impact for me and my co-workers,” shared Cam Vaughn, a driver at Redrock Environmental. Vaughn emphasized the risks associated with their jobs and expressed optimism about negotiating for better safety standards and benefits under Teamster representation.
Redrock Environmental, a subsidiary of Caglia Environmental, serves a broad customer base in Madera County, managing the Fairmead Landfill and the North Fork Transfer Station. This recent unionization marks the first instance of Teamster representation at Redrock Environmental.
Justin Scott, the president of Teamsters Local 431, applauded the workers' resolve amid opposition. “I want to congratulate and welcome all 30 of our newest members. Despite efforts by the company to union bust and divide workers, they never wavered, showing strength and solidarity every step of the way,” Scott remarked. He further noted that the company's response to the unionization indicates the members' readiness for the upcoming contract negotiations.
By joining the Teamsters Solid Waste and Recycling Division, these workers now stand alongside tens of thousands of other sanitation professionals fighting for better working conditions.
Teamsters Local 431 already represents over 2,700 individuals across Madera and Fresno counties. More details are available at TeamstersJC7.org.
