National Nurses United Backs Connie Chan for California's 11th District
NNU Endorses Connie Chan for California’s 11th Congressional District
National Nurses United (NNU), recognized as the largest registered nurses’ union in the United States, has declared its support for Connie Chan in her candidacy for California’s 11th Congressional District. Representing over 225,000 members, NNU aims to elect leaders like Chan who are committed to advocating for progressive policies that benefit patients, immigrants, and the broader working community.
NNU President Mary Turner, RN, emphasized Chan’s previous accomplishments as a San Francisco Supervisor, stating, “As a San Francisco Supervisor, Connie fought for protections for our immigrant neighbors and secured funding for health care to prevent people from losing their coverage amid federal cuts.” Turner expressed confidence in Chan’s potential to reverse policies from the Trump administration, focusing on rebuilding systems to support working individuals rather than billionaires. Turner also noted that, if elected, Chan aims to stop harmful ICE and CBP operations and restore social safety net programs.
Connie Chan herself articulated her commitment to healthcare reform, proclaiming, “Health care is a right, and it’s under attack. I’ll take on Donald Trump and work to restore funding for health care for millions of Americans. And I’ll go further to advocate and build a coalition to deliver Medicare for All.” Chan expressed pride in standing with NNU nurses who consistently advocate for accessible healthcare and conveyed her gratitude for their endorsement.
NNU has a history of supporting candidates who align with their core values, including ensuring safe patient staffing in hospitals, upholding workers’ rights to organize, and advocating for Medicare for All. According to a recent Gallup poll, nurses have been named the most trusted profession in the U.S. for the 24th year running. NNU anticipates collaborating with Chan in Congress to address key issues impacting nurses, their patients, and communities.
National Nurses United is the largest and fastest-growing union and professional association of registered nurses in the United States with more than 225,000 members nationwide. NNU affiliates include California Nurses Association/National Nurses Organizing Committee, DC Nurses Association, Michigan Nurses Association, Minnesota Nurses Association, and New York State Nurses Association.
