Grecian Delight Kronos Workers Join Teamsters Local 710, Set Sights on First Contract
(GLENDALE HEIGHTS, Ill.) – In a significant move towards securing better labor conditions, over 180 employees at Grecian Delight Kronos have successfully joined Teamsters Local 710. These production, warehouse, sanitation, and quality assurance workers are now preparing to negotiate their first contract, aiming for improved wages, benefits, and working conditions.
Despite facing a strong anti-union opposition, the workers overcame the company's efforts to prevent unionization. As Mike Cales, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 710, stated, “This company tried but failed to block these workers from exercising their federally protected right to form a union. Our new members overcame a relentless anti-union campaign, and we look forward to helping them in negotiations to win a strong contract.”
Local 710 has been representing shippers and receivers at Grecian Delight Kronos for more than 25 years. The benefits and contract protections enjoyed by these employees were a driving force behind the recent organizing activities. With the union election now certified, preparations for the initial contract talks are starting.
Tom Erickson, Director of the Teamsters Warehouse Division, highlighted the importance of union representation in today's corporate environment: “As companies consolidate and squeeze workers harder, more people are realizing they need a real voice on the shop floor. These workers stood strong, they won, and now they’re ready to bargain for the wages, benefits, and respect they deserve.”
A shift in workplace dynamics occurred when Grecian Delight took over Kronos, leading to less favorable conditions, as noted by employees. Maria Flores, a new Local 710 member, explained, “When Grecian Delight bought Kronos, everything changed for the worse. Only after they learned we were holding a union election did they suddenly pretend to ‘hear our concerns.’ Management hired union busters and did everything they could to stop us from becoming Teamsters, but we succeeded.”
The International Brotherhood of Teamsters, established in 1903, represents 1.3 million workers across the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico. Additional information can be found at Teamster.org. Stay connected with them on X at @Teamsters and on Facebook at Facebook.com/teamsters.
