UAW Applauds US Trade Representative's Action Against Wage Suppression

U.S. Trade Representative Launches New Investigations on Wage and Labor Practices

The United States Trade Representative has initiated new Section 301 investigations aimed at addressing concerns related to wage suppression and anti-union practices by companies and countries. This move has been welcomed by labor leaders who have long criticized the effects of such practices on American workers.

UAW President Shawn Fain expressed approval, stating, “The UAW is glad to see the U.S. Trade Representative taking on companies and countries using wage suppression and anti-union laws.” Fain highlighted the adverse impact of offshoring jobs, saying, “For decades, we’ve let companies offshore good jobs from the U.S. to countries where workers have no rights and are denied a living wage.”

He further noted the ongoing issue of factory closures and relocations, which he claims continue to harm the American working class. Fain advocated for a trade policy shift, emphasizing, “Instead of driving a race to the bottom, we need a trade policy that puts workers first.”
