AFSCME President Lee Saunders Responds to Donald Trump's Comments
WASHINGTON – AFSCME President Lee Saunders addressed Donald Trump's remarks at the National Association of Black Journalists convention:
“I have two mixed-race grandchildren. Like many African Americans, my ancestors weren't solely Black. Trump's statements about Vice President Kamala Harris' heritage are foolish, ignorant, and divisive.
“These comments distract from crucial campaign issues. Americans need to discuss who will support working families striving for a better life. Expanding freedoms, creating economic opportunities, and building strong communities are values that unite all races and backgrounds. Trump avoids this conversation because he lacks a plan to empower working people, the backbone of our nation.
“I am proud to live in a multiracial country and prouder to be part of a multiracial family. I will spend the next three months helping elect Kamala Harris, committed to good jobs, fair wages, affordable health care, and retirement security for everyone.”
