AFL-CIO Praises President Biden's Pro-Worker Legacy

AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler and Secretary-Treasurer Fred Redmond issued the following statement:

There has been no greater champion in the White House for America’s workers than President Joe Biden. He has consistently supported workers, protecting jobs, defending rights, and investing in economic security.

President Biden’s legacy as the most pro-labor president in history is clear. He led the passage of landmark legislation, rescuing the economy from depression, bringing manufacturing jobs back to America, and creating millions of good-paying union jobs. He ensured a pro-labor National Labor Relations Board, holding bad bosses accountable and raising wages for hundreds of thousands of federal contractors.

Vice President Kamala Harris has played a key role, casting tie-breaking votes to save union pensions, expand the child tax credit, and lower prescription drug prices. She is a staunch defender of civil rights and a proven partner in the pro-worker agenda.

This is why the AFL-CIO supported Biden–Harris for re-election earlier than any other presidential endorsement in our history. We honor President Biden’s choice to not run for re-election.

The AFL-CIO’s leadership from 60 affiliated unions, representing over 12.5 million workers, will soon convene to discuss next steps.

Candidates may change, but our values don’t. We will continue to fight for an economy where everyone has a chance to thrive. Our commitment to organizing, bargaining for fair pay, benefits, and safety will never waver. We remain dedicated to defeating Donald Trump and JD Vance.
