Governor Shapiro Launches $64M PA SITES Initiative for Economic Growth

PA SITES Initiative: Paving the Way for Economic Growth in Pennsylvania

As Pennsylvania embarks on a new chapter of economic development, the PA SITES initiative is set to catalyze job creation and innovation by establishing shovel-ready sites for businesses across the state.

Harrisburg, PA – This week, Governor Josh Shapiro highlighted the PA SITES (Pennsylvania Strategic Investments to Enhance Sites) program's role in spurring economic growth during visits to projects in Bedford and Philadelphia. His administration's efforts are focused on delivering tangible economic benefits across the Commonwealth.

The Governor announced that $64 million has been allocated in the first round of funding under PA SITES. This strategic investment will propel development at 11 sites in counties including Bedford, Berks, and Philadelphia, with the goal of preparing numerous acres for business growth, attracting new enterprises, and generating well-paying jobs for local residents.

PA SITES emerged after Governor Shapiro engaged with national site selectors, who provide expertise on optimal locations for business expansions. As part of his 2024-25 bipartisan budget, $500 million was secured for site development, with $400 million earmarked for PA SITES. This initiative aligns with the Shapiro Administration’s Economic Development Strategy, aiming to enhance Pennsylvania's competitiveness and lay groundwork for long-term economic prosperity.

The Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) received 66 applications, requesting over $377 million. Moving forward, grants and loans will be distributed on a rolling basis, with additional announcements anticipated later this year.
