Sweet Adventures Await: Pennsylvania Launches 2025 Ice Cream Trail at Destiny Dairy Bar
Carlisle, PA – The Shapiro Administration, represented by Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding and Department of Community and Economic Development Secretary Rick Siger, launched the 2025 Ice Cream Trail at Destiny Dairy Bar in Cumberland County. This year, the trail features 51 creameries under the PA Preferred® program, highlighting the state's delectable dairy offerings. To embark on this delightful journey, visit the Scooped: An Ice Cream Trail.
“Pennsylvania ice cream is the sweetest you’ll find anywhere,” stated Secretary Redding, emphasizing the importance of local ice cream in supporting Pennsylvania's economy and farms. Since 2018, the Ice Cream Trail has connected dairy enthusiasts with farm families, offering a unique blend of adventure and support for local businesses.
The Ice Cream Trail is a collaborative effort by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture's PA Preferred® program, the DCED's Tourism Office, and the Center for Dairy Excellence. The 2025 edition aims to guide visitors through an expanded array of dairy destinations across the state.
DCED Secretary Rick Siger remarked, “Pennsylvania’s dairy farms are an integral part of the fabric that makes up our rich agricultural and culinary history.” He highlighted the trail as a delicious way to support local businesses while enjoying quality time with family and friends. The Shapiro Administration is committed to promoting the Commonwealth’s tourism and agricultural sectors, ensuring the preservation of history and economic growth.
Located at Stover Farms, Destiny Dairy Bar offers visitors a firsthand look at dairy farming. Guests can engage with farm life by feeding calves and exploring the petting zoo, all while enjoying a rotating selection of ice cream and milk flavors and learning about the benefits of A2 milk.
Amy Brickner, Owner and Herd Manager at Destiny Dairy Bar, expressed her enthusiasm, “I’m honored to host the kickoff of the Scooped Ice Cream Trail right here at Destiny Dairy Bar. This trail is all about celebrating the small, local creameries that pour their heart into every scoop.” She emphasized the trail’s role in connecting families with the origins of their food and creating lasting memories.
Participants in the Ice Cream Trail can plan their journeys, explore participating creameries, and register at visitpa.com/scooped. By visiting trail stops and making purchases, visitors can collect points from May 30 to September 7, earning prizes such as a commemorative metal tumbler for six stops and a chance to win an overnight farm getaway in Lancaster County for 10 stops. Visiting 16 stops allows participants to earn both rewards.
Pennsylvania is a major player in the dairy industry, ranking eighth nationally in milk production, with 4,940 dairy farms and 468,000 cows producing 10 billion pounds of milk yearly. The industry supports over 47,000 jobs and contributes $11.8 billion to the state economy. Furthermore, Pennsylvania is recognized for its production of butter, ice cream, Swiss cheese, and sour cream.
Emily Barge, Communications and Marketing Manager at the Center for Dairy Excellence, noted, “With 99 percent of our state’s dairy farms being family owned, the Ice Cream Trail is a fun way for families from Pennsylvania and beyond to actually meet the dairy farm families who work around the clock, 365 days a year, to produce delicious dairy products and farm-fresh ice cream.”
Adding a stop on the Ice Cream Trail to your itinerary offers a sweet enhancement to any Great American Getaway in Pennsylvania, driving revenue to small businesses statewide. Governor Josh Shapiro’s Economic Development Strategy emphasizes the importance of the tourism and agriculture sectors and promotes a fresh marketing approach for the state.
The Commonwealth's “Great American Getaway” initiative, spearheaded by Visit PA, invites tourists from nearby metropolitan areas and beyond to discover Pennsylvania’s hidden treasures and beloved attractions, showcasing that a remarkable escape doesn’t require long-distance travel. Visitor spending accounts for over $80 billion in economic impact and supports more than 330,000 jobs across the state (2023, Tourism Economics).
